Detour off Hwy 169 through town. As you exit

Iola, KansasJul 25, 20180 Comments

Hwy 169 under construction between Chanute KS and Humbolt,KS. Southbound 169 traffic is detoured into Iola, and speed drops to 35 and then immediately to 25. Travelers unfamiliar with the streets and avoiding the traffic from being detoured will be stopped for going too fast, which is easy to do because of the detour. Cops are sitting each side of town to nail unsuspecting drivers who can’t see the off street speed limit signs. The streets have some curves into the town that make it difficult if not impossible to see the signs. Iola is making some money from the fines of out of state drivers.

You have to understand there is, all along the eastern corridor in Kansas, a lot of illegal trade, north to south, guns, drugs, etc. These cops are serious about stopping folks and it has, for decades, been a dangerous business. Don’t figure on messing with them and, here’s a shocking idea, obey the posted speed limits.

Officers hide along route to catch speeders. One area the limit is 25 mph. Officer calls it his town, looks like Charlie Chaplin. Gives ticket and lecture before letting you leave.
