State Highway 71 near 8 Miles North of US 190

Deputy Sheriff stopped me for doing 90MPH. I was in a rented Ford Tarus driving 60 MPH on cruise control just after dark. I pulled over, no shoulder, and he took me to look at his radar – it did say 90. What saved me was that I had a GPS map connected to my computer and it was running on the front seat. The unit records instant speed, time of day, direction of travel, location, altitudy yada, yada, yado. I pointed that out to him and all of a sudden a cash donation to him or a trip to the JP (as crooked as the cop) along with towing charges and a night in jail, was averted. This Parish is as crooked as anyplace in the USA not to say that the rest of Lousyanna is any better. Don’t ever get pulled over in New Orleans unless you want room and board for the next 3 days….That cop was a crook and should be flogged and fired. I was advised by friends who are residents of that fine state that any complaint to higher athorithy would like just cause laughter.

Interstate 49 near Just inside the Parish line

I was going south on I 49 and just after I passed the parish line into St. Landry there was a parish sheriff’s car parked on the side of the road. A car passed me speeding. I saw in my rear mirror that the sheriff’s car was pulling off the shoulder onto the road so I pulled over so he could pass me. He pulled up behind me. He gave me a ticket for speeding and then told me that if I would pay the fine it wouldn’t be reported on my license. I was told they are not supposed to do this but I paid and no record.

St.Landry Parish Sheriff’s Dept. are known to sit by many bridges on I-49 and wait for vehicles to reach a little over the speed limit. I have recently seen them go through the median and stop vehicles on the other side. Pay special attention to bridges and exits.
