Elm St./Riverside Dr. – Rick’s Auto

Northampton, MassachusettsFeb 24, 20120 Comments

Cruisers will sometimes park in the lot of Rick’s Auto after hours and wait for people to come flying down Elm St. from either direction since both directions (from the high school and from Florence) bottom out at that point. They will also park just slightly up the street on Nutting Ave or the entrance to the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home on Elm St. and catch people just after the point where Nonotuck turns into Elm. If you are not careful, you will easily exceed the 30mph speed limit just by coasting down the steep hill. On a rare occasion, the officers will sit in the large parking lot of Rick’s Auto and watch for people coming down Riverside Dr. toward the high school on Elm St.

Florence Center; Locust St./Rt. 9

Northampton, MassachusettsSep 21, 20100 Comments

Approaching Florence center from the east (from Northampton center, in other words), the limit drops suddenly from 40 to 25. Cruisers wait by Trinity Park, in a bank driveway, and other other nearby business driveways. Take it very slow entering Florence.

Route 66 West, Smith College to Florence Road

Traps are in various places for three miles, starting near the Smith Athletic Fields where there is a ridiculous 25 mph limit.

Watch the work zones. The police are watching them. Especially after the bridge that is being repaired south of Northampton.

Conz Street

25-30 M.P.H. is appropriate for this street. Many people travel way above this limit here. This street is thickly settled and elderly and other handicap people live on this street and elderly have been killed by drivers speeding and not obeying cross walk laws and stopping for pedestrians. I don`t consider this a speed trap and if your only doing 30, the Northampton P.D. will not stop you. People are getting stopped for doing 35 and above and they deserve to get a ticket. All I can say for you speeders on this street is to SLOW DOWN!
