Route 10 eastbound approaching Route 63   Northfield, Massachusetts

Just after crossing the bridge over the Connecticut River driving east on Route 10 (Northfield Road) and approaching Route 63, the speed limit decreases to 30 MPH. The limit seems to be strictly enforced and I often see someone pulled over on this short section of Route 10.

State Route 10 & 63 near Mile Marker Around or before mile marker 20 on rt 63 Northbound   Northfield, Massachusetts

This entire town is always looking for additional revenue at the expense of the hard working people driving through their town. Lately they've been waiting North of where route 10 and route 63 merge. The speed limit quickly drops from 55 to 40 and they try to take advantage of anyone who doesn't slam on the brakes and obey the unreasonably slow speed limit.
In my experience the officers in this town are very rude and they have inflated egos. If you're pulled over, try not to incriminate yourself and be prepared to fight the ticket in court.

Highway 142   Northfield, Massachusetts

Highway 142 connects Bernardston and Northfield MA with the Vermont towns south of Brattleboro. The limit on the Vermont side of the line is a steady 50 and drops to 25 within 150 yards of the border after you cross into Mass. The speed limit continues to fluctuate randomly for the 5 miles it takes for 142 to connect with Massachusetts 10 at Bernardston. A quarry for a contruction company is about 3.5 miles south of the Vt/Ma line. The police wait here completely obstructed from view, sometimes without any lights at night. Tickets on the road start at $250 and go up from there. Officers are also known for asking to search vehicles- it isn't really optional- either you consent or you are going to be very late for work. This is a major commuter route for employees of Lane construction, Cersosimo lumber and a route to I-91 for residents of southern VT towns. Leaf peepers also tend to take this 'back road'. I can't believe this town isn't taking in at least 50% of its revenue from tickets. Well known area speed trap.

Anywhere in towns   Northfield, Massachusetts

Police are enforcing on a quota, so towards the end of the month watch for the blues. Be careful anytime on RT. 63 in northfield because speed changes a lot, and there will always be a cop waiting when you are going to fast. Bernardston; watch out around 2:30 school days because they watch the high school trafic. They will sit on roads off of RT. 10 in hard to see spots. When in Bernardston and Northfield go slow, it's worth the extra time. Also state police will sometimes next to off ramp at exit 28A.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
