North Hyatt Street near West Pope Street

Monticello, ArkansasMay 27, 20080 Comments

City Cops sit on the corner of Hyatt and Pope in the curve, which hides them from traffic coming from Hwy 425. Speed Limit is 30 and in that area it is hard to coast and not go over 30. Happens pretty much anytime of the day.

Jordan Drive near Monticello Schools

Monticello, ArkansasMay 27, 20080 Comments

City cops sit around the 425 over pass and catch people coming into the school zone speeding. They also scatter around the area in other places.

Also, the traffic setup here is such that a 4 way stop or red light is needed instead of the 2 way stop at the intersection of Scogin Drive and Jordan Drive. In the mornings traffic will back up to MIS and to improve flow drivers will drive on the shoulder to reach the turn lane. This too is a bad idea as cops will stop you for this. Never mind that they could simply get out of their cars and direct traffic for five to ten minutes, which would make the entire situation better for everyone and take away the need to drive on the shoulder.

Coming south from the red light of US 425 and State 35 there are several places that the police like to sit on this 3 mile stretch of road. They hide behind trees, sit in between mobile homes, and hide behind church signs.
