Emmitsburg, Maryland Speed Traps
140/Main Street Road near Pregnancy Center/Jubilee
Police set in front of the Pregnancy center. They are there any time of day. They sit facing east, when descending down the hill the speed limit is 25mph so you almost have to ride your brakes. With my car and truck, I easily can coast at 35mph.
Creamery Road near Mother Seton School
This varies on what time of day it is, during school hours the limit is 15mph, non school hours it is 25mph, People go through there like they are on a highway. Police either sit in a driveway across from the school or most likely are at the tire center so when you make that sharp turn, well, they have you. I have not had a ticket there, but have been stopped at night for having a tail light out.
State Highway 140 near Harney Road
Police set on the old closed portion of Rt. 140 East of Emmitsburg with Radar pointed East to get the West bound traffic crossing and coming down the hill right where the speed limit changes from 50 mph to 40 mph. They also set near that location but on the side of the road with the radar pointed West. Traffic crosses the over pass headed East, and speed up , thinking they are out of town and on the open road but they are still in the 40 mph zone.
140 Road near Just past Dough Boy on the left
Police sit on the west shoulder, by the old High’s store.
If coming out of town it is 25 mph, starting up a hill. Most start accelerating in preperation of the hill, where halfway up the speet is 40 mph.
If you are traveling east on 140 you are coming down a hill, 40 mph, to 25 mph into town.
To control the speed coming down the hill, you need to be riding the brakes!
They love to be there on Sundays as people go to church. In the winter months they are there to catch the skiers as they travel to and from a local ski area!
Route 15 – Near Roddy Rd.
State Trooper sits behind hill between Thurmont and Emmitsburg. You can’t see him until it’s too late.
