Southbound 301, Citgo station at Orland Park Road

Newburg, MarylandJun 19, 20180 Comments

Right at the Citgo gas station, the speed limit immediately drops from 55mph to 25mph. Officers are waiting off the freeway with radar guns. They wait to pull you over until after you pay $6 to go through the bridge toll plaza (even after a 20 minute wait), then claim you were speeding even if you were in stopped traffic. Out of state rental car drivers beware!

Slow down to 25mph when entering toll booth from Maryland, cops waiting. Make sure your going 50mph coming off the bridge from Virginia because there is often cops waiting.

Southbound side around the truck stop

Traveling south on 301 approaching the bridge past rouote 257, there is a reduced speed ahead sign at the bottom of the hill before the truck stop on the right. They give you one tenth of a mile to reduce your speed from 55 to 25. Maryland Transit Authority uses marked and unmarked cars to radar from the truck stop parking lot, the median, or the shoulder.

speed trap is conducted by bridge police they patrol up to four miles north of the bridge.. speed traps are in the north and south bound lanes.. besides speed traps they monitor working lights, broken windshields etc. these police have a full time staff and under cover vehicles with only a small amount of highway to patrol. i see them pull over up to 5 cars an hour.
