Rt 3 East and West

Augusta, MaineJul 29, 20130 Comments

Electronic monitoring signs perhaps 50 yards apart just as you enter "Augusta City Limits" which just state:"Thanks for Driving Safely" or "$119.50 Fine". No police cars in area; just the signs. Is it a camera? Even after purposely slowing down so I could read the sign I still got the $119.50 Fine" message. No speed limit signs in immediate area, but the GPS indicated the speed was 50 MPH. Saw these on 7/27 and 7/28.

At the Armory on Western Avenue

Augusta, MaineApr 07, 20100 Comments

Cops like to do speed details on Western Avenue in this area. Lots of times on your way to work in the morning (hopefully making you late to work). The speed limit is only 25 mph and can catch you off guard if your just coasting especially considering it’s all down hill through that intersection at the Armory (they sit in the Armory parking lot). It doesn’t reach 35 mph until almost McDonald’s. I also believe the cops can laser you from the armory parking lot to when you start descending down the hill which could be as much as 150 yards from their position.

Car goes fast coming down hill – often enforced

Riverside Drive near South of 3rd Bridge

Augusta, MaineMay 31, 20060 Comments

Speed limit drops from 45 MPH to 25 MPH. City officers like to hide either at the old Kirchner building or in the O’Connor Motor parking lot (more during evening hours) Both locations are just after the drop in speed rate

Cony Circle near Bangor Street

Augusta, MaineAug 31, 20050 Comments

Cops love to sit at the bank on Cony Circle just waiting for someone to mess up. You’ll generally see them anywhere from 10pm – 4am, depending on how early the sun rises. This spot is really a trap for people coming up Cony Rd from where City Hall is. If you don’t yield, you could get pulled over. Remember, cops in Augusta usually have absolutely nothing to do. Sitting in a parking lot for hours on end and getting paid tax-payer dollars is the life.
