Tyronza, Arkansas Speed Traps

This has been a notorious speed trap for many years. Local city cops patrol this stretch 24/7 and fill the towns coffers. The newly completed interchange has eliminated the 45 mph limit, but they still write lots of tickets since that is the only revenue the town recieves. The state has tried to shut them down, but a judge always throws the case out of court.

Cop sits in medium just around corner after speed limit goes from 65 to 55. Town is just wide spot in road. Cop will turn on radar/laser just as victim is spotted. City cops had car pulled over just a few days later on my return trip.

City officer sits at intersection by State Hwy. Posted speed limit is 65 mph except thru several small towns. I never saw a sign reducing speed limit to 55 mph or warning of speed reduction ahead. Two cars with Arkansas plates I was following must have missed it also because they didn’t slow down and my friend following behind me in a rental car with AR plates said the last speed limit sign he saw indicated 65 mph. The cop pulled out, ignored my friend following behind me with AR plates, and proceeded to pull me over. When I called the next day, cop shop indicated ticket was $140 after the $10 credit for having my seetbelt on. Mailed cashier’s check which they returned. Guess they didn’t like my comment on the ticket about a "cheesy small town scam". Told me the ticket was now $145. Talk about an abuse of power and extortion!

On Hwy 63 North and South Speed Limit is 65 but Drops to 55 around Tyronza watch out!

This small strip of highway drops from 65 MPH to 55 MPH abruptly. Giving one little or, no time to slow to the lower speed.
