Prescott Valley, Arizona Speed Traps

While traveling east on Highway 89A, the speed limit changes from 65 MPH to 55 MPH just past Viewpoint Drive and for only about a mile or so. DPS hides often in the median just as you crest a shallow hill and within a few hundred feet after this speed limit change. With the distraction of an intersection further down the road and being able to see 65 MPH signs again in the distance, it is easy not to spot a patrol car and/or miss the lower speed limit.

DPS uses a few roadside locations for hiding often, as well as they operate instant-on KA band radar while on the move. There are several easy spots for a patrol car to make a U-turn in going after a vehicle for violations. Fain Road has recently been upgraded to a four-lane highway with grassy median and an upgraded 65 MPH speed limit. Regardless, a one-mile section (while traveling north) before Highway 89A remains at 55 MPH and then raises again to 65 MPH just before Viewpoint Drive. All of this amounts to confusing drivers who aren’t familiar with the area or not paying attention. Such an area makes it ripe for unjustified speed tickets and the true definition of “speed trap”.

Mobile Speed Van System

This city uses stationary Cameras and mobile vans along with the ridiculous 25 mph speed limits on most main roads. They also post police at the bottom of hills in case you might just go over. It does no good to protest; they’ll just serve with more papers and charges and say they didn’t receive what you sent. Avoid driving in this town at all costs. I do and I live here….for now.

Drivers must slow from 45 to 35 mph for cameras at Lake View. They usually return to normal speed right after since it’s a 6 lane highway with nothing on either side. this is where the white van is usually parked with photo radar.
