Hwy 179 at Bell Rock

Sedona, ArizonaDec 18, 20130 Comments

Be careful when heading North on 179 just after Bell Rock. Speed limit on this divided 2 lane road is 35 but the road right after Bell Rock merges to 1 lane. Cops are waiting for you at the Court House vista parking lot which is out of sight as you emerge over the hill. Very easy to do 45 or 50 on this highway and they don’t issue warnings.

89A between west Sedona and uptown Sedona

Sedona, ArizonaFeb 27, 20130 Comments

89A between west Sedona and uptown Sedona. About halfway down the hill, police hide back in the lot of an out of business building. Radar is not always on. Although you may get the natural feeling that you are leaving town and the speed limit is returning to 55…surprise, halfway down see the only 40 mph sign and the police flashers in your mirror. You can coast over the speed limit. A merchant told me that when the police use their saturation style patrol technique they are lined up giving out tickets. This really deceives first time visitors and makes a lot of money for the city. By the way, no warnings given, no tolerance, they need the tourists fines. This is why a crime free town this small has a 32 member police staff. P.S. I won’t go back to Arizona for a vacation again.

Sedona unmarked traffic enforcement cars

Sedona, ArizonaMar 25, 20100 Comments

Sedona has a black Ford Explorer SUV. The popcorn machine lights are buried in the tail gate and in the side of the SUV. No roof lights. Very difficult if not impossible to spot. Just be aware that Sedona uses stealth cars.

As you turn off Hwy 17 onto the road leading to Sedona

Sedona, ArizonaMar 15, 20100 Comments

Turning off the high speed highway 17 onto the West leading road that
leads to Sedona , the speed limit drops DRASTICALLY.
Watch carefully. An officer in a police car is waiting to
catch everyone who accelerates on leaving the
underpass to the highway that leads directly up to Sedona.
