Hertford, North Carolina Speed Traps
Route #17 Between Hertford and Elizabeth City
Be very careful driving this road. When I travel this road it is not uncommon to see the NC State Police stopping multiple drivers coming and going between the two cities. The NC State Police must be saying "Gotcha" to drivers many times a day. By-the-way, Route#17 between the two cities is an easily traveled four lane road. The NC State Police often use unmarked cars and seem anxious to say "Gotch" to drivers.

I have gotten so many tickets in this area! To avoid addressing major drug problems here, the “cops” choose to tackle easy violations like speeding and seat belts. They especially like to harass women and I actually had an “officer” ask me what such a pretty girl was doing out alone this late at night! Another went so far as to say, wow your husband sure is gonna be mad at you for getting ANOTHER ticket. I averaged 2 tickets a month, sometimes more. I started driving my husbands pick up truck, the tickets stopped and I have not been pulled over once! Ladies, look out for these Good Ol’ Boys!

The major revenue in Hertford is traffic violations, cops will seat on 58 north bound right as you enter the town of Hertford where the speed limit slows down to 50 MPH and then 45 MPH. Unfortunately you have to go through there to go north bound.
