Mars Hill, North Carolina Speed Traps

Traveling eastbound on I-26 (near MM3), white unmarked Chevy Camaro located on the left shoulder, directly next to the cement barrier. This portion of the interstate is quite a hill, so it’s very easy to exceed the speed limit.

NCHP can be found between Mars Hill and Tennessee state line on both sides of the Interstate. Use caution around Visitor Center/Rest Area. Speed Limit is posted at 60 Mph., however most people will do 75 coming down long step hill near rest area. NCHP hides just east behind guard fence.

West of Mars Hill on I-26 fromUS19 to State Line. Especially east of Rest Area. Speed limit is 60 but very easy to exceed coming down long stright grade.

This area is one of the "Highway Patrol Honey Hole" for Western NC. This 4-lane road is well traveled as a main route to Asheville for folks coming from TN and the mountain counties of Madison, Yancey, and Mitchell. Highway patrol units are both marked and unmarked, and the city police of Mars Hill patrol the highway hot and heavy as their city limits barly extends past the exit for thier small town. The trap runs from Mars Hill up to the Woodfin exit on this highway.

The road is Interstate-quality, and looks wide-open. Speed limit is set low, at 55 mph. NC state troopers patrol constantly up and down, and use instant-on K-55 radar. I was not speeding (travelling at 50-55 mph) but was tagged anyway, and have no "proof".
