Warsaw, NC 40 East to beach

Warsaw, North CarolinaAug 19, 20140 Comments

Creeping into Warsaw (West to East on 40) You will see the town and railroad crossing. The speed limit says 35 but quickly drops very quickly to 25 at the railroad tracks. It is marked but with the railroad crossing and other eye distractions you need to pay attention. On the other side of the tracks to the left a police car zaps radar. The town has some turns to navigate so I drove at the minimum limit until I got out. We’re careful drivers but the curious traps take the fun out of driving to the beach.

In addition, we had our cars stopped at a 9:30PM Friday night check point on a slow residential/vacation renters road in Emerald Isle after family Putt Putt. 3 police cars at a small intersection of nice vacation homes. No issues but startling. It wasn’t fun to drive/site see with constant monitoring of every MPH on the dash. We were more concerned about the speedo than Emerald Isles twisted run/bike/golf cart/people crossing going on all around you.

I understand why all this exists but we will look for routes/beach destinations that don’t have such a trap feel. But hey, might just be me. I avoided Maysville and that trap this year. Went home through New Bern. These towns should focus on business so people stop and spend- not just want to get through/out of.

This area of north of Warsaw was once very congested. Highway US117 running through the town was once the main highway leading to Raleigh for folks traveling from the south. Due to the additional of I-40, the town has been mostly bypassed. Many business along the outer sections of US 117 through town have closed. There is very little traffic in this area of town anymore. The town’s 35 MPH limit seems painfully slow when traveling in and out of town on the northern end. Motorist are tempted to exceed 35 MPH limit, especially when exiting the town. There are plenty of places for the cops to hide in this area due to abandon business. Plus the slight curve the highway makes it difficult to see approaching cruisers, until it is too late.

DMV & NCHP swarm around this area consistently, usually seeking truckers and travellers in the wrong. They are not incredibly sneaky, but this speed trap will catch you off guard because it is in the middle of a very rural area. Late night speeders make for easy targets because of sparse traffic. Pay special attention from June-September. They love to catch speeders on the way to/from beach vacations and have no remorse. Also, during the summer the NCHP have their Click it or Ticket program in full effect. This is a good location for them to fill up their citation book on tourists who have their guard down.
