Ocean City, New Jersey Speed Traps
9th Street Bridge Visitor Center
One cop stands by the visitor center behind some construction sign (guess they’ll be gone soon but in front of the building) and radios speeds down to cops sitting in the TD Bank on the island. It’s getting ridiculous and their claimed speeds are ludicrous. They’ve pulled over my car twice (I wasnt driving once) and have given tickets at least 6 miles over what the car was moving at. Of course, too bad.
Longport Bridge
A speed limit of 25 miles an hour; police cars are parked just beyond the toll plaza as you come back on the island; also in the fishermen’s parking lot at the other end of the bridge. The downgrade is so steep at both ends that, even w/ foot off the gas pedal, it’s almost impossible not to excede 25 MPH.
Where Man Is Crossing Street With Beach Chair
Another tourist money making trap – There is an “undercover” officer crossing the street like he’s going to or from the beach. He’ll appear out of nowhere and expect you to stop and let him cross the street. If you don’t … Bam!! he radio’s to a squad car up the block, and you get stopped and ticketed for not yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. These guys have nothing better to do, so Please be careful. Don’t fall victim to this nonsense.
State Route 52 9th St. Bridge
The 9th Street bridge entering Ocean City is their citys biggest speed trap. The speed limit was 45 mph and caught more than enough speeders coming over the bridge every year, especially in the summer. Now there is mass construction going on redoing the bridge and the limit is 35 mph. They will be out in full force no matter what time of day and not only will you receive a speeding ticket but it will be doubled because of the construction zone.
