US 6 west Tonopah, around mile marker 44

Tonopah, NevadaJul 07, 20170 Comments

Posted speed limit is 70mph, which also showed up on our navigation system as 70mph. We were pulled over when a trooper coming the other direction saw us pass another car. He said he clocked us at 96mph, which is a total scam since the other car was going about 60mph. He then proceeded to tell my husband that it is a construction zone and that he was 40mph over the “posted” speed limit but that he could but wouldn’t double the fine, which was already $525. Ridiculous. As we pulled away he mentioned it’s a construction zone for the next 20 miles. Not one bit of construction for the whole stretch but there WAS a permanent 55mph sign about 2 miles down from where he stopped us!

US Highway 95 near US Highway 6

We got pulled over as my husband was not wearing a seat belt and forgot to signal that he was changing lanes. We were lumbering along not speeding as we were pulling a 27 foot trailer. Also got a lecture from the NHP trooper about our mirrors. The NHP trooper was just pulling out of the Station House Casino by the museum. Expect heavy enforcment on holiday weekends (this occured Memorial Day weekend).

I 95 on the north end of town

Tonopah, NevadaApr 09, 20020 Comments

As you enter from the south, the speed drops drasticly from 70 to 25 MPH and continues all the way through town. Then as you’re leaving the speed goes up to 35MPH. You start down a hill and your car wants to pick up speed and the cop sits at the bottom with radar and claims you go 16 to 19 MPH over the limit. Be careful through all the towns and anywhere on the road from Vegas to Carson City. They slow the speed down quickly coming into town and increase it slowly coming out and it can be changed for no apparent reason anywhere. This is a very courupt state.
