The troopers have a whole team of vehicles that apprehend you for the most minor traffic infractions. There is no fine printed on the citation, which is where the extortion comes in; the local court rules on your case on a case-by-case basis, making what in my state a $90. fine into $270.

My advice: obey every traffic law if you must travel this stretch of 390 and travel well under the speed limit. Move over to the left lane if you see them stopping on the shoulder for any reason, especially if there are two or more cars there.

The trap occurs under the underpass with the cruiser tight against the middle abuttments. Since the Exit is also on a hard left curve, anyone violating while traveling south/east on 86 at that point will have a problem with the New York State Police.
