Corfu, New York Speed Traps

Officer sits right by the sign hidden by the hill, When he pulls you over, he mentions that the judge will "work with you" if you show for court. The "judge" lessons the charge to a $150 parking ticket in court, so you don’t get points on your license and the town pockets all the money. NICE!!

Corfu police, equipped with rear cameras, sit in the cemetary at the bottom of the hill as you enter the village from the north.

Police sit and wait for speeders at the cemetery or school as the zone abruptly changes from 55 MPH to 35MPH, not coincidentally the area where they sit is not 50 feet AFTER the speed limit sign, ensuring you will get nailed because you don’t have enough time to slow down. Most likely, you can get the fine reduced to a parking ticket by the court, but you will still end up paying a hefty fine of $150 (ouch). If you are still going 55MPH though, forget it. you will get AT LEAST 2 points on your license and pay upwards of $300 (for a first offense)!!!!

Both ends of the village of Corfu the cop sits at the firehall in the east end and at the road to the water plant at the west end of the village. They will nail you if you are 1 mph over. Basically don’t speed through Corfu ever!

This is a seasonal speed trap. They hire extra officers for the spring, summer and fall months to get speeders using the Darion Lake State Park and Darion Lake Theme Park. The entire village is one big speed trap on both state highways coming from any direction.
