Police cars observe from various locations in parking lots along corridor on route 28 going west from Kingston. Speed limit is 45 – not unreasonable but low – and it is easy for police to hide. Keep it under 50.

US Highway 9W near US Highway T

As you travel north from the Town of Esopus townline into the City of Kingston, the road changes from 2 lanes to 4 lanes (2 in each direction). With an exception of two traffic lights there is absolutely no traffic control devices. They have set the speed limit to 45 MPH and will enforce it even if you go 2 MPH over it!

By comparison, the roadway along most of Route 9W in the County of Ulster is 55 MPH and it is a two lane (1 lane each direction) highway!

Most people get behind a "slow poke" in the areas where the speed limit is 55 MPH and by the time they get to this "nice stretch" of roadway of 2 lanes each direction, and suddenly the speed limit DECREASES to a mere 45 MPH it is clearly nothing more than a "money making speed trap"!
