Massena, New York Speed Traps
Highway 56 between Masenna and Potsdam
As you are heading South leaving Norwood there is a 40 mph zone that has been recently extended beyond the BOCES building. No public announcement for this change and the tendancy to speed up is there as this zone makes no sense. Troopers haunt this area and you are the lambs for the picking.
On Rt. 37 heading east out of town
As you leave Massena headed west on Rt. 37 you go past the Mall on your right. Just over the hill they is often a police patrol hiding in the medium. If you are not from this area, you are on a 4 lane and surely the speed limit must be more than 55mph; nope and you are ticketed.
Four lane bypassing Massena
Rt. 37 has a four lane that goes around Massena. You would expect this to be at least 45 mph, however it is 35mph. You must watch the signs carefully as they do not increase to 55 mph to well beyond where you would expect. Also, caution in the whole town, they will ticket you for anything!
State Highway 420 near Commerce 2nd Entrance Drive
State Police sit in the second entrance/exit of the Industrial Park and by the Pump station (green) just around the bend.
E. Hatfield Street near Urban Drive or Grove Street
This section of E. Hatfield "feels" like a country road, so the temptation is to speed up. Don’t!
