Oneida, New YorkOct 27, 20140 Comments

Speed limit from Canastota on Rte 5 is 55 mph to Wampsville, changes
to 40mph before you reach the village of Wampsville, abruptly. Resumes
to 50 mpg after Wampsville to Oneida. All on Rte. 5
Police officer in wait at the point where the limit changes from 55 to 40 Mph
At Wampsville. I was ticketed for 57 mph in what I thought was 55 mph. Officer
disagreed due to the abrupt change to 40 where he was sitting in wait.

Fitch Street near Elm Street

Oneida, New YorkJun 24, 20060 Comments

As Elm St., which is a 55MPH street from Wampsville merges on RH side to Fitch St,. the speed limit IMMEDIATELY lowers to 30MPH. If one were to continue down Elm St. past the same point as the Fitch St. merge, past the SAME city limit line, the speed limit dosen’t reduce to 30MPH for ANOTHER HALF MILE! If one does not pay close attention, you will travel down Elm St. for at least 3/4 mile before seeing any residential areas: It’s easy to assume that the speed limit is still 55MPH (especially if one is not familiar with the area)…IT ISN’T! Oneida USED to be a nice area with reasonable law enforcement officers. Now they’ve been conscripted to act as ticket-dispensing bridge trolls for another dying central New York Community desperate for revenue. Even if you manage to get your speeding ticket "reduced" to a "Parking Violation" by hiring expensive legal representation, your ticket will STILL cost you in the range of $125.00!
