Castro Valley, California Speed Traps
Castro Valley Blvd and Center, Domino’s driveway
The cops sit in the driveway well hidden as you are going towards CV from Crow Canyon Rd direction. Perfect speed trap since the speed limit is 30 or 35 and it is wide lanes and clear roads 90% of the time you can easily go over that without even realizing it. By the time you see the nose of the cop car, it is too late.
Center Street between Grove Way and Hayward border.
CHP or Alameda County Sheriff park across from the Arco Station and use hand held speed guns targeting drivers going Northbound going up the hill. It is very difficult for some drivers to maintain the posted 25 MPH speed limit while climbing the hill. I had lived in the apartments next to the service station and it was a regular occurrence on the weekend. Even if the cop is citing one driver, he will order other drivers over with hand signals if you seem to be going fast in his opinion. I once saw 3 separate drivers cited at once. Surprisingly, I don’t see this happen going down the hill, possibly because of Hayward PD’s defacto jurisdiction once you cross the bridge over the creek. Use a low gear going up hill, or poke along if you are driving an automatic. Heed the rumble strips and avoid the ticket.
Westbound 580
Speedtraps are set up approx 1/2 mile before the Castro Valley Blvd. exit, and another approx 1/4 mile after the exit.
Center St at Vannoy Ave
