There sometimes is a cop hiding out in the parking lot by HSBC right past the mobil station. When I first saw him it was late at night and he is there occasionally.

N. Corona Avenue near Southern State Parkway

Valley Stream, New YorkMay 12, 20040 Comments

Nassau County PD is notorious for setting up traps along Corona Avenue in North Valley Stream about a quarter mile south of the Southern State Parkway. They catch speeders coming off the parkway who have not yet adjusted to street driving and nab them for breaking the totally ridiculous speed limit of 30 (maybe even a school zone 20 MPH) on the wide open road of Corona Ave. Beware the police cruisers that sit in the parking lot of James A. Dever elementary school. They are armed with radar!

Merrick Road

Two "traps". First is westbound approaching the Valbrook diner. Just before the RR overpass, there are TWO traffic lites within 20 feet of each other. Both turn red simultaneously. Many drivers blissfully go thru the first red light and stop at the 2nd. You MAY get caught!

Second is a speedtrap going east or west on Merrick road approaching or leaving Lynbrook. There is a grade school with overhead 20 M.P.H. warnings. There is usually an unmarked car parked at the curb. If you spot him, it’s probably too late!
