Richfield, Ohio Speed Traps
Wheaton Road near Interstate 77 North/South
East to West on Wheaton Rd. Be aware that local law enforcement will sit at the bottom of the hill when traveling East on wheaton. They will also sit at the top of the hill as you accelerate up out the the small valley heading east from Interstate 77.
Brecksville Road near Quality Inn
The speed limit is 35 and it looks deceiving. Driving south toward RT 303, downward descent. Just coasting, no breaks, you will go 50-60 fairly easy. Cops are around, not too many breaks.
Interstate 271 near Interstate 77
This report actually applies to several locations around the region, but I see the eye in the sky most often over the area near the I-271 and I-77 interchange. The local PD will request the aircraft and staties will join the frey at will. The pilot will pace up to 4 vehicle at one time for 2 miles each. The section of high is broken into at least 3 calibrated 1 mile sections. You can see the hash marks on the shoulder of the highway. These hash marks are re-measured on a regular basis to prevent calculation error. From what I understand, the pilot has lost one contested case in 25 years. So beware, if you are heading south down I-271 you better start to slow down once you get past Rt 303 as the trap starts only about a mile further down the road. If you see the plane circling overhead, you’ll know what to expect.
Just south of Rt 303 on I-271 in the median
Can vary. May be a single car with radar in the median clocking traffic in either direction. Most commonly it is an officer standing in the door of an SUV with a laser and at least two cars waiting for the go ahead from the officer clocking traffic. The latter scenario is generally during evening rush hour clocking northbound traffic. They sit in a location that is very open, but it sits in a low spot so that you cannot see them as you come over a rise from either direction until it is too late.
