Russia Road near State Route 58 South Amherst, Ohio

Rusia Rd is a County road with speed limit of 50mph. But there is a section less than 2 miles long that cuts through South Amherst. It is between SR 58 and Quarry Rd. Here the limit is 35. Though the speed change is marked it is easy to miss as you cruise down this country road. Just as you pass into it heading West there is often an officer sitting in a driveway blocked by foliage. There is a street on the Right (north) side of the road and they will sit in a driveway there watching cross traffic. You won't see them until you are right there. There is a 4-way stop and they sit in a driveway just off of Russia watching for rolling stops. Keep in mind that the city is so small it does not even have it's own dispatch but relies on the county dispatch. Why is it that the smallest Municipalities are the worst offenders?

West Main Street SR 113 Street near Far West Inn South Amherst, Ohio

The officer usually hides in the Baptist Church parking lot just East of the Village limits on Rt. 113. They sometimes hide at the old water department building. The speed limit on Rt. 113 is 55 MPH until you reach the Village of South Amherst, where it is lowered to 35 MPH. While the change of speed limit is posted, it is easy to be cruising along and miss it and if you do, you will absolutely get a ticket. The officers also wait for motorcycle riders to leave the Far West Inn or Wileys Tavern in the late evening hours. You must go the speed limit or you will be pulled over. We are residents of this small community and were pulled over because our license plate light was burned out.
