Tremont City, Ohio Speed Traps
N. Mulberry Street
I had left town and was surrounded by corn fields. Suddenly here comes the local part-time cop, telling me I’m speeding. There is no sign to mark the edge of town. No way to know you are no longer within the speed limit area. Corn fields all around and he claimed I was speeding in the village. I got a lawyer and beat the ticket. I’ll never drive through that run down Tremont City again. I go way around.
Tremont City, Ohio – New Plate Readers?
We live just outside of this run-down town. All day and night we hear the sirens of people getting violated. Where does all the money go beyond new cars and computers?
Latest addition to this village-wide speed trap appears to be Plate Readers.
We past the “police” car going 25mph in the 25mph zone. Seconds later he ran us down. Stated our plates were expired (they were – we never got the renewal notice and most of our cars had multi-year plates).
We were guilty. Just wanted to update everyone on the change.
N. Mulberry St. or anywhere within or around the village
As soon as you enter the village the speed limit goes from 55 to 25. A small section is posted at 35 so as to give confusion to drivers. There are no warning signs at the edge of town to warn drivers of the drastic change in speed. The entire village is maybe 1/2 mile from one end to the other. The part time officer on duty is usually out of sight on a side street with his radar gun at the ready. There is one traffic light in the center of town and if it doesn’t stop you, it doesn’t feel like you are going too fast for the surroundings at 30-35MPH. If you are caught, at I to 20MPH over 25 MPH, it will cost you $180. This offense is at the top of the list because it generates the most easy money for the village and they can snag even the most responsible driver. The officer is willing to overlook any other infraction because they don’t generate as much money. The ways the fees are set up, most infractions like fictitious Plates ($130.) or No Operators License (125.) are all far below the fee for speeding. This town isn’t just a speed trap, it’s a predatory speed trap.
Tremont City, OH
I have had to pass through this villiage all my life to get to Springfield, OH.
It is a notorious speed trap. They will give you a ticket for going 2 MPH over the 25MPH speed Limit. It has one stop with a No Right on Red for all 4 approaches.
There is no need for this as you can see clearly in every direction. It is just a way to bring in more money. One has to wonder what the money is spent on as this wretched little village has abandoned buildings even on the main street.
