Medicine Park, Oklahoma Speed Traps

Coming off of I-44 heading west the speed limit is 45. If caught doing 46, they will ticket you.

Medicine Park, a small town of less than 300 people, have annexed a small business strip along SH-49 just off I-44. This area is more than 5 miles from the town of Medicine Park. It is used as a source of revenue both from sales taxes levied at the 6 or 7 businesses and also from traffic tickets issued by their town policemen. They hang out at a convenient store at the location drinking coffee and then cruising the highway for speeders above the 45 mph limit. (65 mph just a mile west) They are not protecting the citizens of their town. They are there solely for the purpose of gleaning revenue for their town. This is a “speed trap” by all definitions.

Med. Pk. Police park at the Med.Pk. Telephone office Parking Lot on west side of Hi. 58 because there is a Wireless Computer Hotspot in Ft. of office and also across the Hi 58 in the Wichita Online parking lot 100 yards north of Telephone Office . On weekends Police park and use computers along with the Radar ! They are very hard to spot as lots of Tele-Comm. Vechicles are always parked there . They are always around late at night and in warm weather when there are lots of people at Lake Lawtonka just North of there .

Officers sit just as you come over the hill right when the speed limit goes from 65 to 45, and stop people going just 5 or 6 miles over the limit.

Beware of SR-49 as soon as you exit off of I-44 going to Medicine Park or the Wildlife Refuge. Medicine Park police are constancely running radar even though their jursidiction ends on the north side of the Loves store. Most drivers dont know this so they dont question it.
