Fort Irwin Road near Before the turn on outer loop   Fort Irwin, California

Speed limit drops from 55 to 45 just before the left turn off onto outer loop. the sign is sun washed, smaller than all other signs and hides behind a bush.

Fort Irwin Road near South Loop Road   Fort Irwin, California

As you are approching the front gate at Fort Irwin the speed drops to 45mph then to 35mph, then as you close in on the gate the speed drops to 25 mph. You are required to look over your left shoulder at this point to go into the extreme left lane. As you do this, the speed limit changes suddenly to 10 mph. At this point a Fort Irwin police officer has radar on you. He is on foot with a radar gun on the sidewalk next to a building.

Anytime you travel Fort Irwin road from Barstow at peak hours you should watch out for CHP along the side of the road before you go over Jackhammer Pass. When you hit the Fort Irwin Reservation boundary (Note the big sign) slow down to 55 or the MP's WILL get you.
