Scravel Hill Road   Albany, Oregon

Heading into Albany from Jefferson, you come over a hill into a valley that is mostly farmland. Half way through the valley the speed limit changes to 55. The Linn County Sheriff department likes to set up a speed trap in the zone between the 45 and 55. It seems like you should be in a 55 because you are in the middle of bare farmland in the country, but you are not. They like to use unmarked SUV's. If you see a car off of the road, assume it is a cop.

Looney Lane near State Highway 34   Albany, Oregon

If you are leaving Linn Benton Community College from the front parking lot and take a right onto SW Allen Ln (it takes you the back way to HWY 34 instead of taking HWY 99) to Corvallis, there is a city of Tangent Sheriff that sits in an industrial parking lot on the left about a 1/2 mile before the HWY. He pulls over students there quite frequently.

State Highway 99 East near 54th SW Street   Albany, Oregon

As you enter Albany from the south, on Pacific Hwy, Just North of Linn Benton Community College, you pass through a gradual left-right S curve and then come to a straight stretch about 3 miles long that leads into Albany. The police will hide on the East side of the road near the pumping station and use laser on the motorists - most typically from the south direction. People are usually traveling 60mph because the closest business is 3 miles north, but the area is listed at 45mph, so be careful.

US Highway 20 near Water NE Avenue   Albany, Oregon

As you exit one way city streets, you move from a 25mph PSL to either a 30 or 35 area. However, where this changes is when you are out of the city streets on on a two lane bridge (both lanes going in you direction). As you crest the bridge, there is often a police officer in a Crown Victora shooting constant on K band. Expect to get stopped for 10 over, but I've heard of some people getting off with just a warning, so actual ticketing is not severe. About 100ft from where the cop is, the speed limit changes to 40, and about 300' after that, it changes to 45. You can see these signs when you crest the hill, but don't speed up till you actually get to them.

Due to the vertical curve of the bridge that is being targeted by the police, radar detectors are of limited value. If you are the front car in the pack, you are toast.

Looney Lane road runs in front of LBCC from 99W to Hwy 34   Albany, Oregon

Leaving the college towards HWY 34, cops like to park in various places on the left after you gain speed. Busted doing 71 in 55. Fairly rural and wide open, trees and bushes obstruct view of police. Seems noon time is a common time.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
