US Highway 101 State #26 near Pacific Way   Gearhart, Oregon

The police Dept. of this small, coastal, town, consists of two officers. They will work in "relay" with two radar guns, both being well hidden, behind tourist enabling buisnesses. They will, give out "warnings" to out of state, or out of area cars and travelers, but quickly ticket "local" drivers. This section of the coastal scenic highway is entirely 4 lanes, does NOT go through a populace pedestrian area, and is posted for 45 mph. BOTH ends, immediatley before and after, of this 2 mile stretch, is posted back to 55 mph.

Pacific Way near the City Hall just west of the school   Gearhart, Oregon

Police Jeep sits in front of City Hall or near it in the parking lot along Pacific way. There is a school as you enter on Pacific way headed west which has a posted speed limit sign of 20mph and in small letters at the bottom it reads "at all times." The problem is that well past the school over on the right in the trees there's another sign that says the same thing "20MPH at all times." The street has various businesses on both sides of it and there is a small downgrade on the street past the school as you approach the city hall. The officer claims I was doing 36mph and when I told him I wasn't going 36mph and asked him to show me the readout he claims Oregon law doesn't require him to lock in the radar. Be very cautious in Gearhart especially on Pacific Way as this is an obvious speed trap :-( Needless to say I won't be staying in Gearhardt for any vacations anymore!

Along highway 101 as it goes through Gearhart..   Gearhart, Oregon

When you leave the town of Seaside going north along hwy 101 ..there is a small sign announcing that you are entering Gearhart. It's a bit hard to see. There appears to be several places that the police wait. They will ticket you if you go over 45 mph. This enforcement is currently hit or miss but.. you should be cautious going through the town from Seasides border (over the bridge)... to the mobile home store and bait shop on the leFort..
