Interstate 82 Mile posts 1 thru 5   Umatilla, Oregon

Oregon State Police are notorious for harassing citizens from all over the nation along this stretch of road. If you are taking the family on vacation and have no other choice but to pass through this area, avoid using Interstate 82, and get off at the Umatilla City exit. The Umatilla City officers are among the finest in the nation, and tend to have a kind heart when it comes to traffic violations. Also, if you drive a semi-tractor, expect delays of up to 45 minutes to 1 hour from the Oregon State Police, they do have a quota of truck inspections that they must meet for the year. (Shhh don't tell, but the State Police get a check of $50 for every truck inspection done. This makes your big rig a pay day for every stop made.)
