Boro Police park 1/2 block North of this intersection in an alley and watch stop sign violations. In hours of darkness they park with all lights turned off. I know because they are parked beside my house and block the alley.

Borough police like to sit beside the old Bonarrigo/Tri-Star Ford dealership on the westbound side of state route 22, directly across from Dean’s Diner. The speed limit here is 50 mph, which I feel is low for a 4 lane divided highway in the semi-rural setting of Blairsville. Vascar method I think, but not sure. Route 22 changes to 4 lanes 1/2 mile west of this spot, so as eastbound travelers finally get a passing zone and depress the pedal a little, suprise, there’s the local law. Westbound travelers have just gone through a commercial area a mile east with a couple traffic lights, and just want to keep moving, and suprise, there’s the local law. It’s the perfect place for the police to sit, but it’s all because of the speed limit being too low, and it just happens to be inside borough lines. Also it’s common knowledge that one officer on the force has become devoted to enforcing traffic laws, especially speed limits. Dean’s Diner has even changed their marquee on the eastbound side to read "watch your speed" because the state police are also known to patrol this stretch of highway.

east of Blairsville 5 – 10 miles, cop sits at the bottom of a hill between two mountain ridges. If you see head lights switch-on from the side of the road, it’s probably too late, buckle your lap belt and try to remember where your insurance card and registration are. If you make it as far as the construction zone, be sure to slow to the 40 MPH spped limit, he’ll follow you to try to up the fine due to the construction zone.

If you’re looking for a good time, let the law enforcement at Blairsville, PA. fill your needs. Is it a trap? I dunno. You decide. It was 3 a.m., dry as a bone … only I and a marked white and red cruiser were on the road, traveling west. My speed was 55 mph, and I actually slowed down a little just to be extra-safe as I passed the cruiser, which was doing about 50 mph. My mistake … the speed limit was in fact 50 mph, and when I saw the sign, I immediately slowed to the correct speed. That wasn’t good enough though, and the "Twin Barneys" stayed on my tail until the apparent end of their jurisdiction. There they pulled me over and we went through all the usual rigamarole of licence, proof of insurance, etc. I did NOT cop an attitude with them. Next we went through a ridiculous Q&A about how much drinking I had done that night. I told the officer that I am a Mormon and NEVER DRINK alcohol, but he insisted that I answer his question "yes or no," even after a perfectly lucid conversation with him. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES later, my wife and I were still sitting there at the side of the road, waiting for these guys to do something. In all that time a total of two pickup trucks, a passenger car and an 18-wheeler drove by. I actually began to read a novel while we waited. If you think perhaps a stern warning was in order, guess again. This overbearing, officious and thoroughly unpleasant man issued me a ticket for TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS! My actual violation was driving between 3 – 5 mph over the posted limit, on a deserted, clear, dry road. Since then, I’ve heard from a number of other people who have had similar run-ins with Blairsville police. If this is not a trap, then it certainly IS an attitude. I advise caution when driving through this section of Pennsylvania’s U.S. 22.
