West Springfield, Massachusetts Speed Traps
I-91S (just before RT 5S exit)
When traveling southbound, the State Police will be sitting in a median turn around just past the overpass, usually ready to pull out after southbound speeders. The speed limit drops from 65 to 55 right about here, but I really haven’t seen the 55 MPH enforced. basically- don’t fly by at 75 or 80 and you should be ok.
Piper Road at High School
This area of Piper Road in front of the high school is long, relatively flat, and wide. The school speed limit is 20mph, but the enforced limit at night (outside school hours) is 30mph. Even so, this is a ridiculous speed limit for this thrufare, and you WILL be ticketed for and exceeding 40mph. It is easy pickin’s for the cops, and with such a low speed limit, they can ticket you ridiculous amounts (mine was $212). I lived on this road for 10 years. be very careful!
Route 20 (Big Y parking lot)
Usually either in the Big Y or Little George’s parking lot, the West Springfield cruiser will blend in with the other cars in the parking lot. Sometime’s it’s an unmarked car. When the light’s green, people cruise through the intersection, and it’s often hard spot this guy. Look for him early.
Route 20, Next to Santa Claus House
Tries to tag people coming down the hill heading towards Springfield. As soon as you pass the Rogers Ave. (at the small set of lights) heading towards springfield, procede with caution.
