I-44 (H.E. Bailey Turnpike) entering town

Oklahoma City, OklahomaJan 06, 20030 Comments

Is this a trap or poor planning? As you exit the turnpike, the speed limit drops from 75 to 70 MPH. Unfortunately, the sign is in a curve near a point where traffic is merging onto the highway. It’s very easy to miss if you are paying attention to traffic.

NW 23rd between Penn and Villa

Oklahoma City, OklahomaDec 30, 20020 Comments

This is a 5 lane road (2 on one side 3 on the other) with a speed limit of 30 mph. I guess the reasoning behind the limit itself is there are a few low visability turn ins but it really doenst feel like it should be a 30 mph zone. After dark there are almost always 2 or more cruisers in the area putting their radar on everyone. They love to get vehicles coming out of the business’s on the road that accelerate too fast. The cops generally sit in the Shepard Mall parking lot back a few hundred feet where they are difficult to see.

Usually one car, hides behind a pine tree. He bags people as they come off the onramp and must exceed the speed limit to get up to turnpike speed.

I-35 from Turnpike South to I-44 west bound

Oklahoma City, OklahomaMay 22, 20020 Comments

When you are going South bound on I-35 to OKC the OK county sheriff will sit behind the bridge on the median of NE 122nd street. The speed limit is 70MPH. City, County and some times highway patrol will sit on the median after Wilshire BLVD and then the speed limit will go to 60MPH by the bridge closer to I-44 west bound. The cars are black with blue strip and some are white, blue, black, black and white crown victorias and suburbans. WATCH OUT, THEY WILL GET YOU.
