•This is clearly a trap as the speed goes to 55mph for no reason. I will fight this ticket (I am a lawyer) on the basis that the posted speed is less than the state mandated highway speed, so it must be supported by a Traffic Survey saying that 55 is the max. safe speed. If no survey, the 55 mph posting is illegal.

Agree it is a set up to trap. I entered 290 going west on the first exit from I35. There is no speed limit sign till you get to the bottom of the hill, too late, I thought it was 65mph not 55. The sign is blocked by road signs in front of it. I went to court and the officer didn't show and so the ticket was dropped.

I travel this route almost every day. Austin PD is there almost every day. They only trap East bound traffic on US 290 that has just exited 65 mph Interstate 35 only to discover they are on a 55 mph hwy. It's a cash cow radar trap.

That's How I caught in yesterday. I tried to switch from I35 to HWY 290, but I missed it. So I had to enter use side road to get 290. Since the ramp was in middle of the hill. So I had to speed up to go top of the hill. Then suddenly speed limit sign appeared and I was caught. I complained this is a speed trap, but he just bargain my speed from 20 miles over to 10 miles over. It's really bad experience.

•I agree with this trap. As you enter the freeway there is no speed limit sign. You go up the hill and generally vehicles come down at 60+ mph. However, right at the bottom just before the 55mph speed limit sign, there is a cop with a radar. It is actually the same guy every time.

I live right beside this speed trap and see people pulled over by the handfuls, all day and night every single day. They park beside the overpass over 183 and you can't see them until it's too late. Watch out!
