Speed Trap at Henry Hudson Parkway, Manhattan, NY

- Latitude: 40.823
- Longitude: -73.9573
- Description: The Henry Hudson Parkway runs north up the west side of Manhattan. It is also known as the "West Side Highway". On the northbound side there are a set of curves where the speed limit drops from 50 to 35. NYPD-Highway sits here and writes for over 60 mph. The limit goes back up to 50 near the toll booth. While the area is signed, most cars moving at the 60 mph average coming out of the 50 zone don't slow down. This is a very expensive ticket, as it is "heard" in Traffic Violations Bureau, where there are No deals, so the six or eight point ticket results in $300-$450 in Points Tax and a fine of $140 to $230. This is the single worst speedtrap in NYC.

That final 35 mph sign Used To Say End 35 MPH. (Look carefully and you can see where END was painted over above the number.) That sign is placed Before the Dykeman Street/Riverside Drive on ramp. They changed the sign so that the police can sit in the on ramp to catch you. I drive to work that way every morning and often see pullovers between the ramp and the toll booths. By the way - when I lived in that neighborhood in the 60s and 70s, the toll on that bridge to the Bronx was 10 cents!

Wow! That's quite price to pay for being in a hurry! Thank you for the "heads-up"!

I was nailed just after the 35 mph zone at the point where the speed changed back to 50 mph. When drivers see a speed limit sign for a higher or lower speed, they tend to adjust their speeds when the new speed limit sign is readable. 20 feet before the 50 mph sign, I had sped up to 60; I was written for going 60 in a 35 mph zone NOT in a 50 mph zone. I'm going to fight this, but BEWARE!

This is one of the best/most used traps I've seen...anytime ...pulling over car after car. Look out!

I drive this way every day for the last 16 years and I have seen this "speed trap" maybe 3 times in 16 years - it is more legend and worry than anything else. Yes - be careful - but it is not a true speed trap.
