Description: This concerns the infamous Beaverton "Red Light Camera". You have exactly 3 seconds to go 111 feet across the intersection under the yellow which hits fast and turns red before you get through the intersection. Some have hit their brakes hard anticipating the super quick yellow only to get rear ended violently which really should cost the City in a lawsuit, and I'm sure eventually will. Many good citizens with excellent driving records which include me, have been caught by this speedtrap and had to pay the $256.00 dollar fine. Even the City Police hate this area and the damage it causes the city which only get 10% of the "take" from the owners of the four huge cameras on poles which crowd the very center of the sidewalk and are in the right of way for anyone walking on those sidewalks. Where is the ADA on the placement of these objects? If you or I stood on a street corner with a high powered flash camera and then flashed it in drivers eyes at random, how long would we stay out of jail? Studies have proven that a longer yellow actually produces fewer accidents as well as less ticketed drivers. Shame on you Beaverton.

The law in Oregon clearly states you are required to stop for a yellow light unless it is unsafe to do so. As for getting your picture taken on a yellow, sorry the cameras will only work if you have entered the intersection after the light is already red. In which case you deserve everything you get. Don't thank Beaverton for your stupidity, take some responsibility for your carelessness and be thankful you only got a ticket and didn't cause a crash and hurt someone or yourself.

I don't care what anyone says, the yellow light on this intersection is way to short. They made it that way on purpose to trap people. yellow lights are supposed to give you warning, this one is too short and everybody knows it is too short so they slam on their brakes to avoid the ticked and frequently get rear-ended. I think someone should time this light and compare it to others.

I too have received a citation from this intersection. I was stalled in traffic behind a rather tall truck , which shielded my vision of the overhanging street light. The truck sped up and I reacted and moved ahead, only to find that I had crossed the line during the red. The truck went off and I was cited. The City paid no heed to my claim. I paid $300.00 and it did affect my insurance.Thank you Beaverton. Now when I can I avoid the intersection!

I don't think the City hates this area...Money honey...Keep running those red lights..btw, when the lights are amber...that means better start to slow to a stop otherwise that red light comes up and oh boy a flash to boot.

This article doesn't deserve a comment as I see no one did. I say, a yellow light that stays on for a while means get ready to Stop...If you choose to go thru the red light...hmmmm you've got one coming...and your insurance rates go wayyyyyy up..
