US Highway 84
U.S. Highway 84 runs through the town of Whigham, Grady County, GA. There is a school zone which is only about 1 block. Prior to the school zone the speed limit is posted at 45 mph. However, it’s easy to miss the school zone because the school sits back from the highway and is surrounded by a high fence. I went through the town, traveling west and didn’t realize the school zone limit was in effect. Was clocked at 42 mph but thought I was fine. The shock came the next day when I called to find out the amount of the fine and was told it would be $300.00. I live in a neighboring county (Decatur)and checked with our local authorities to compare the fines accessed for the same offense and found that Decautur County’s fines are much lower and more reasonable (in my opinion). Because I live close by I have the option of contesting the fine. However, for those who are traveling from further away this could pose a serious problem. Be very careful traveling through this little town.
