State Route 2
Unknown to most tourists, DWV is a cause for many Iowa State Patrol officers to pull you over, even if you are not speeding. If you are from out of State, you are fair game. The farther from Iowa you live, the better. You will be told that you can contest the ticket by appearing personally in court on a speciafic date 4-6 weeks later (when they are confident you will be unable to do it).
I have been trapped twice this way, once in the 1980s north of Fort Madison (I was driving the posted limit, an Iowa car with a vanity plate passed me and waved at the trooper, who then turned around and pulled me over and ticketed me) and the 2nd in 2002, outside Bloomfield, when a trooper noticed I had no front license plate (AZ does not have front plates) and turned around and stopped and ticketed me. Since we no longer have family left to visit in IA, I bypass the State rather than drive through it. Their State Troopers are as bad as many were in the Southeast in the 1940s -60s.
