Mountain Parkway near Exit Number 42
As you travel east on the Mountain Parkway, the road transitions from a 4-lane limited access highway (with a 70 mph speed limit) to a "Super-2" highway (2-lane limited access with a 55 mph speed limit) at Exit 42. Kentucky State Police and Wolfe County Sheriff cruisers sit at a closed Rest Area 1/2 mile east of the interchange to catch those that miss/ignore the drop in the speed limit. This trap has be in operation (more or less) since the road opened in 1963.
