Glencoe, Alabama Speed Traps

Beware if you have out of state plates in the city of Glencoe. Its is a small town and the scam there is to give out of state drivers tickets. I was given a $175 ticket for “running a red light” .
I suspected a scam when I was pulled over while traveling through the town, but didn’t find out until later that the fine was that high. Definitely a traffic scam in that city.

The speed limit remains 25MPH even after the residential area ends and the road turns into more of a country road than a city road. Glencoe PD likes to sit pulled back in the water pump utility area where they are hidden until a car is right upon them. I avoid that section of road if at all possible.

Green Valley Road is heavily patrolled from the Jet Pep station at Pilgrim’s Rest Road to Hwy 431. I will almost always see at least one LEO during morning drive hours and sometimes see as many as three. The speed limit on this road is 45mph all the way across. An unsuspecting driver might assume a country road in the condition of this road to have at least a 50mph limit. Watch out, heavily enforced.

Entering Glencoe on US 431 North. The speed limit changes from 65 to 55. I was ticketed for driving over 65 in the 55 zone, although I slowed down to 55 prior to the marked sign. Out of state plate, and a state trooper who knew I could not prove him wrong. If you are stopped here by this trooper, get an attorney. I was able to have these fabricated charges dismissed. This speed trap resulted in my first ticket in 40 years of safe driving, and I was not speeding.

They love to see your out of town tag… They don’t give out tickets, they sale them. And if you go to court (city) there will be the half the officers of the town with there coke cans and Dip in their lip, sitting near the judge with this look of power in their bloodshot eyes….A real Mickey Mouse Deal.
