Highway 5 northbound

Marion, AlabamaMay 28, 20190 Comments

Highway 5 is a decent highway that runs north from Selma to cut through to interstate 20. There is very little traffic as most of the countryside is rural and agricultural. I was cruising at 62 in a 55, yes I was speeding a bit on a sunny day, saw a cop tailgating another car coming towards me and took it off cruise. He went by me and turned around to get me. After slowing down I started coming into town and saw a speed limit of 45 and I already was at maybe 50. Pulled over and cop told me that he had me at 68 in a 55, but he caught up to me after I passed the 45 sign. I told him I had it on cruise so something had to be wrong. He went back to the car and wrote me a ticket for 68 in a 45! I am from out of town and can’t fight this. All I can do is warn everyone that this little redneck cop is seeking revenue for broken down Marion. Avoid this town at all costs! If your not from there, stick to the interstate if you can.

Speed limit drops by 10 mph just north and south of town, not sufficient warning and the police hide at the lower limit sign. In addition, these police will increase your claimed rate of speed to bump you to a higher fine rate.
