Coming into city of montgomery, speed limit changes from 65/70 to 50 zone for no apparent reason

Harrison Road between Ann St. and Perry Hill Rd.

Montgomery Police love to sit on side streets and hide between buildings on this busy road. The speed limit is posted at 30 but they often get people going 40 or above. I live off Harrison road and I’ve seen one or two motorcycle cops spend hours sitting at the end of my street (Beechdale Road) hiding behind a big bush just waiting for speeders. They also sit up at Flowers Elementary School, again hiding behing trees. And down from the Amaco station, they sit in a covered carport of a vacant building. A lot of the time, you can’t see them until you are right on top of them. Most people think the speed limit is 35 or higher so they get busted a lot.

I-85 North

The speed limit on this 8 lane interstate, drops from 70 to 60 as you pass the Ann street exit. A city patrolman sits in the median and takes his pick as to which of any of the thousands of cars that pass by in the 80 mph flow of traffic. I was ticketed for 81. I asked the cop after he had already written the ticket, what he was doing patroling the interstate? He said, "doing my job"! I said isn’t that the state troopers job? He said the interstate was in the city limits! I didn’t really want to remain silent, but I decided to leave it a that. If you happen to be traveling thru Montgomery North on I-85 please watch for this speed trap and please stop at the next County (macon) for gas or a soda, Montgomery doesn’t need your honest bussiness, they like to get there money like any other common thief.

This is one of the few cities in Alabama that has 50 and 55 mph speed limits on all interstates

U S 331 north of Ada

Unmarked highway section, about 14.5 miles south of US 80 intersection We didn’t get caught, but there was no "55 mph" sign on this stretch of open highway after coming from a 45mph zone from Ada. This stretch goes on for maybe 4 or 5 miles through the countryside and the obvious idea of any driver unfamiliar with the area is that the sign is missing. A big mistake!!! Two cycle cops patrol this trap, we did see one in action when we went through. I understand that this is typical and that there are many similar Alabama traps. I feel sorry for the people of Alabama that they have to resort to such sleazy income producing tactics and thereby damaging their chances of a lucrative tourism industry.
