Don’t even bother going into this quaint little town anymore. Just off the highway that lists "oatman" there is a small town and then basically 40 miles of open desert between the town and main highway. There is ONE (I went back and counted) ONE speed sign just inside the small town limit that reads 35mph. Once you are in open desert with NO cross streets, houses or other roads, and NO other speed signs posted ANYWHERE in the desert, you will usually find a VERY sneaky "indian nation" highway patrol hiding behind various bushes or cactus just waiting to give you a speed trap ticket. I happened to be heading into oatman the weekend of the anual motorcycle ralley they have in town every year. Along with a group of 10 or so bikes I was pulled over for doing a comfortable 50mph with my 75 year old mom in the car. I argued with him to drive back with me and show me a speed sign, to which he gave me attitude and just pointed back toward town, not wanting to miss any of the other bikers heading in the same direction that, I’m sure were doing alot faster speed than I was! THis guy was a real ASSHOLE! I’ve always loved the little town of Oatman buy have OFFICIALLY wrote it off my places to visit on my yearly vacation to the beautiful state of Arizona! My guess is it is probably the ONLY weekend they can make their quota’s for the year! Lets ALL protest, and maybe they will get the idea. See my official blog under L.J.Herndon in 2008
