Phoenix, Arizona Speed Traps

South bound on SR51,mutiple motorcycle units in center under bridge. Occasional 4 wheel backup further down SR 51.

As you travel north or southbound on 24th street there will be a motorcycle officer stationed in someones side yard or back on the sidewalk usually right around cholla. This is both am and pm rush hour.

Several times a week, especially on Fridays, and more towards the end of the month, be on the lookout for a motorcycle cop using a radar. The speed limit drops from 55 to 45 right before this and he likes to catch people who don’t realize the speed limit changed.

Motorcycle cops sit on the north side of Greenway at the entrance to a housing community just east of 7th ave. The trees cast shadows on a white block wall, effectivly hiding the bike cops. Greenway makes a slow right turn up until 6th ave, where it then straightens out (that’s where they hit you with the guns). The speed limit goes from 45 to 35 in a school zone (School zone speeds are effective from 7am to 4pm M-F).

This trap is sporatic. Most of the time they are not there, but when they are sitting there, it’s usually 3 or 4 of them pulling everyone over.

Greenway Parkway has the nickname of Greenway Speedway.

Recently at a crosswalk next to Deer Valley HS 2 students have been hit by cars and I believe killed. I work at Discover Financial At 23rd and Beardsley so I pass by here almost every day right around 2:00 or so enroute to Loop 101, right around when school gets out. Almost every day when I turn out onto 51st from Bellair (community from 43rd to 51st btw Bell And Union Hills) I see a Glendale PD heading northbound, and then almost immediately another heading southbound. At the intersection of 51st at Grovers, for the past 2 weeks or so almost every other day or so the mobile photo vans are set up, looks like they’re shooting both directions. Keep an eye on the speed and that damn crosswalk.. it’s like maybe 4-5 hundred feet from the intersection at most.. …and oh yeah keep going and you’ll usually pass at least on or two DPS down near 51st and Beardsley..
