South Sr90 to Sr92 Bypass near Avanida Cochise Road

Sierra Vista, ArizonaJun 20, 20050 Comments

Two lanes each direction with new homes on East side and Military base to the west No safe shoulder on the west at all to pull over on if stopped by DPS.From Fry Blvd ( post main gate) very congested at AM commute times. Most drivers drive at 55 to 60 mph once past Willcox. There is always a DPS patrol coming north looking to snag someone. The 45 then 50 mph is way under what this minor beltway should be posted at. The North Bypass has more cross traffic and is posted @ 55 and I have often been next to City patrols and DPS doing 60 mph there.
At the current rate of $13.00 per mile over the posted speed it’s a pricey fine for the average 60 mph pace this road moves. It’s rare to see someone doing the posted limit!
It’s a sure sucker bet!

Quite often a city police officer will sit in a vacant lot on the west side of the street approximately one half mile south of the bypass.

Charleston Road near Escapule Road

I was travelling to Tombstone, AZ (North) from Sierra Vista, AZ along Charleston Road. The normal speed limit is posted as 50 Miles Per Hour and has been so in this area for at least the past 25 years. All of a sudden, an abviously brand new sign of "40 Miles Per Hour" appeared on my side of the road just south of the Escapule Road Turn-off. Two Cochise County Sheriff Office patrol cars with lights flashing were sitting on a bend no more than 100 feet into the "40 MPH" posting. One of them "lite me up" and gave me a ticket for driving "56 MPH" in a 40 MPH zone. I asked him "why is there no "reduced spped ahead sign" and received no answer. Suspicious, I walked back to his car where he was writing the ticket and asked him to show me the radar registered speed. He stated, "by law I do not have to let you see it". Sure enough the speed was blazing in red numerals as "52". The officer not only committed highway robbery, but lied about the speed. Despite my protest, he did not change the "56" on my ticket. Watch out Sierra Vistans, the worst form of theft, that by so-called "law enforcement" is out there and wants your wallet. It will cost me over $150.00 for this theft unless I attend the "Traffic School" and "humble myself".

This stretch of road is a quick route out of town, so keep your eyes open. Also Nelson drive was mysteriously lowered to 25 mph and they have been ticketing people all day.
