Star City, Arkansas Speed Traps
Arkansas 530
Arkansas 530, not to be confused with Interstate 530, is a new 2 lane road that travels for about 20 miles. It runs straight as an arrow with no curves, no residential anywhere, no school zones or signaled intersections. It is totally desolate with a 55 MPH speed limit. To get on AR530 you most likely came off I530 with a 70MPH speed limit. The Arkansas State Police continually drive up and down this road to ticket them for speeding because the speed limit is purposely artificially low. Star City makes a fortune off this road. Just as a comparison on AR425, which never stops curving and is full of residential and small towns, has a speed limit of 60MPH. This is an “Intentional” Speed Trap and should be challenged legally.
US Highway 425 North near City Limits Sign
Heading north on US 425 just before entering the city limits you will approach town coming off a big hill. In the curve at the top of this hill you will see a 45 limit sign. Because of the hill and curve the sign is hardly noticeable and to slow down you must break hard. There is no warning of the limit sign and because of the curve, drivers new to this area doesn’t have a clue they are approaching a city. Most city’s have a ‘Speed Limit Ahead" sign, warning drivers to prepare to slow down. The local police will be parked to your right with radar…just as you come off the hill.
