This has bugged me for a long time and, it’s been several years, but my wife and I were returning to Ohio after attending my brother-in-law’s funeral in West Monroe, La. When we left Ohio, there was one lane traffic from Dayton to Louisville due to a severe ice storm. We left my mother’s house very early in the AM to get a head start on the weather. We were approaching Wilmot at 5:25 AM when I noticed a caution light in the distance and the speed limit very rapidly dropped from 55 to 45 to 35 to 25, all in the space of less than 400 yards. You literally had to ride your brakes to comply. As I passed under the caution light at 41 MPH, my wife and I saw him parked under the edge of the Exxon station. He put his light on and pulled me over. I went back and sat in his car while he wrote the ticket. I noticed on his clipboard that he had stopped about 22 or 23 people that night. Mine was the 4th ticket he issued – all to out of state drivers. The other 18 or 19 were all locals and they got warning tickets. He took my driver’s license and told me it would be returned when the fine was paid. He didn’t take me to the judge because it was early in the AM and it was a Saturday. Sure enough, I paid the $55 fine and my license was returned. They also sent me a nice note "thanking" me.
