Bakersfield, California Speed Traps
E/B Hwy 178, near Canteria Dr. (City In The Hills)
This is a favorite spot for both the CHP and BPD. They sit on the south side of Hwy 178, near the commercial complex at the bottom of the downgrade from Morning Dr. Sometimes singly, sometimes in multiples, with radar/lidar. If you’re looking ahead, you can spot them, but if you’re focussed on getting up-canyon to your favorite fishing/camping/partying spot, and/or you have the sun in your eyes, you wont see them until its too late. Watch your speed coming off the hill. Sometimes they also nab the westbound traffic speeding up to go UP the grade.
Intersection of Collumbus and Alta Vsta
CHP sits at the intersection and waits for people to run the stop or roll through without a complete stop. He also checks the speed of cars coming up to the intersection on Alta Vista.
Hwy 65 Bakersfield to Porterville
Highway patrol heavy from 7th Standard to Lardo Hwy. Fomoso Hwy and Hwy 65 to Porterville. Watch your speed! HP trowling up and down Ducor to Porterville
Old River Road south at the I-5 overpass
Unmarked car monitors speed while passing malodorous dairy farms. CHP on overpass lights up as you pass him regardless of present speed being well below the limit.
Castro Lane between Ming Ave. and Belle Terrace
Motorcycle cop sits on side streets. Speed limit is posted on the E. side of the street by the Valley Square parking lot. Jolly Kone area is also a magnet to him.
