San Vicente Boulevard near Bundy Drive

Brentwood, CaliforniaJan 07, 20081 Comments

San Vicente is one of the few streets where traffic moves pretty quickly in Brentwood. Between Bundy Drive and the beach on San Vicente, the speed limit is 35 but most people move at a rate of 45 or so. Anytime, though especially on weekends, law enforcement wait on the side streets and pull people over all day long, both Eastbound and Westbound- usually one positioned on each side of the street. If you are stuck behind someone that appears to be going too slowly, don’t pass at a high rate of speed out of frustration. Trust them… they probably got a ticket the week before!

Brentwood Boulevard near Oak Street

Brentwood, CaliforniaNov 05, 20072 Comments

N/B Brentwood Blvd. approaching Oak St. is a two lane highway. About one block prior to Oak St., it becomes a four lane highway. This section is posted at 35 mph. Shortly after it becomes four lanes, the speed limit is reduced to 25 mph. This is two blocks prior to a right curve in the roadway that has large yellow and black warnings to slow to 15 mph while negotiating the curve. A 35 mph speed limit is safe on this four laned two block portion along with the 15 mph warning for the curve. The addition of the 25 mph speed limit to slow traffic prior to the curve is totally unnecessary, and can only be considered as a revenue generator. There are sidewalks on both sides, and a crosswalk at the signalized intersection of Brentwood Blvd. and Oak St. Pedestrian traffic is light to none with no enticements for jaywalking.

Sunset Boulevard near Amalfi Drive

Brentwood, CaliforniaJul 17, 20060 Comments

Sunset Blvd straightens out for about half a mile between big curves. The broad, wide street invites drivers to ignore the 35 mph posted limit. Motor cops hide in sidestreets and in residential driveways, radar guns ready. The area between Amalfi Dr and Capri Dr has been a notorious speed trap since I was in high school (back in the dark ages.) Enforcement is on and off – cops will be gone for a few months, then back & constantly pulling folks over for weeks at a time. This is pretty near the Mandeville Cyn speed trap, too.
